Product description

Completely assembled and ready to go, right out of the box. Unique bike hold-downs separate and firmly hold up to 2 bikes. Coated hooks protect your cars finish. Folds down flat for compact, convenient storage.

Got a hatchback? A four-door sedan or a passenger van? Then the Sentinel two-bike trunk rack from Saris is designed with you in mind. Fits atypical body styles and can be mounted over most spoilers or lighting arrays. Carries up to three bikes. Made with adjustable arms that can be mounted securely in multiple positions or can fold flat for storage. The hold-downs wrap around each bike independently so to keep them crashing into one another and to keep then from wobbling while in transit. The hooks that secure the rack to the trunk seam are neoprene coated so they won't scratch your car's finish, and the bottom bar brace has a vinyl covered foam pad to separate the rack from your trunk lid. No assembly required. Just take it out of the box, strap it on and go.

    « bikes fell off!!! »
So, I'm pretty handy and I couldn't believe I didn't pull down on this rack hard enough to alert me because I drove through an intersection and looked in my rearview only to be greeted by nothing...the bikes fell off and I stopped immediately. The top straps did not hold tight, they were already threaded as I was told it "was ready to go". Once I tied the loose ends it worked fine and I was so glad to run into g & dj, who got me back on my feet. Once we tied the ends the rack worked great. I'm taking it back to the store that sold it to me to ask if the clasp is working as it should. My 2 cents.

« Secure rack and fits over spoilers »
Finally, a rack that fits over spoilers!! We have an '02 Mustang convertible and an '05 RX8. Both have fairly large spoilers and we use this rack on both cars. However, because of the way we need to angle the rack over the spoilers, we need to take off the front wheels in order to fit two bikes at the same time.

The rack hooks onto the back of the trunk and the bottom of the trunk with two sets of straps. As long as you tighten all four straps as much as possible, the rack stays put. We've gone up to 65 mph with two bikes on the rack, and the rack hardly moves. You still want to be cautious with bumps and turns, but otherwise the rack is great. It also goes on and off the car very easily.

« Great fit over spoiler »
My vehicle is a 99 Toyota Camry with a spoiler. At first, I was a bit skeptical about whether or not the rack was going to fit around the spoiler. However when I put it on it was about a perfect fit! Despite the fact that the rack only has 4 straps (2 upper and 2 lower), it is very steady.

With one bike attached, the rack handled very well, keeping the speed under 45 mph. Unfortunately, when I took it out to speeds of about 60, I noticed the bike doing a rocking motion. This was probably due to wind turbulence, so I would advise avoiding highways unless you use additional tie-downs for the bike. I also noticed that my bike had a slight tendency to slide back and forth in the brackets when turning.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with the functionality and stability. I recommend it to any bike rider/mountain biker.

It does everything it's supposed to - provides sturdy hold of two bicycles with minimal movement while keeping car safe from damage. Once you figure out the installation the first time, it's easy on and easy off.

    « Skeptical No More »
We had a bike rack a few years ago that attached to the trunk of our Saturn. I don't remember the brand, only that it was so difficult to use that we only used it a few times.

Now living in the Desert Southwest, we've gotten more into biking and were looking for a rack for our Toyota Prius. We went to sporting goods stores and bike stores only to be told that nothing they had would fit. We did some Internet research and found the Saris. The price was right and the reviews were positive. I was skeptical but we figured we'd try it because we hadn't found any other options.

Well, I've got to tell you that even the very first time we used it, we took only 10 minutes to get two bikes hooked on (and they STAYED on even at highway speeds).

This is a NICE rack. Thanks to all those who reviewed it previously and helped me overcome my skepticism.
